Business-Friendly Approach That Benefits Sausalito Residents

Need video Needed: The problem: Problem is that it’s really hard for businesses to get anything done in Sausalito to improve their businesses and downtown. Myth busters: did you know that businesses contribute more to Sausalito’s tax base than residents — 40% of tax revenue from businesses vs. 25% from residents, Yet, it takes them years to get approvals due to our beautraccy and small staff. Here’s my solution and it benefits not just businesses but residents as well. Talk about what you did to help the PBID get through. and it’s $1.2 gross contribution over 5 years and net positive impact of $624k. Talk about how adding one or two more hotels could help us fund our increased insurance premiums and tackle our pension stuff, etc.

What I have accomplished so far:

  • Property Business Improvement District: Advanced the creation of a Property Business Improvement District in Sausalito. This initiative is unprecedented in Sausalito, putting trust in our community and giving local stakeholders more control. It aims to improve our area beyond the constraints of city bureaucracy and can be replicated in other areas.

  • Protected parkletts on Caledonia Street: xxx

What I plan to accomplish if re-elected:

  • Attract key anchor tenants to downtown: Waive the “anti-franchise” rule on a few specific “anchor” tenants for downtown and Caledonia to create an anchor business attraction that supports a surrounding eco-system, of non-franchise businesses

  • Add two more hotels: Introduce two hotels with 40 rooms each, generating an additional $2M in tax revenue. Hotel guests will also boost local spending at restaurants, retail stores, and attractions like the Matthew Turner and Sausalito Center for the Arts. This will enhance Sausalito’s vibrancy and expand the city’s tax base.
